Christchurch singers progress to the international final
Christchurch City Chorus has made it through to the international final of the Sweet Adelines International Competition
in Las Vegas, Nevada. Representing Sweet Adelines Region 35 New Zealand the Christchurch City Chorus competed against 33
other chorus’ from around the world to make it into the top ten.
The Chorus will compete in the international final on Saturday 22 October 3.50pm (Pacific Daylight Time) at the MGM
Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada. This can be viewed via the webcast at http://www.sweetadswebcast.com/.
Musical Director, Virginia Humphrey-Taylor says, ‘we are very proud to be representing New Zealand at the international
competition. It is great to see all our hard work and focus of the past 18 months come to fruition by progressing
through to the international final. We are very excited about our performance on Saturday and look forward to impressing
the judges and audience with our singing.’
The Christchurch City Chorus last competed internationally at the 2013 Sweet Adelines International Competition and
placed 6th.
The Christchurch City Chorus took to the stage in Las Vegas with 133 women. The Chorus was founded in 1985 and has won
first place twelve consecutive times in the national competition.
Sweet Adelines International is a worldwide organization of 30,000 women singers and over 600 chorus', committed to
advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony. That is, 4-part a capella singing.
