TEMPO'S 13TH
FESTIVAL YEAR SHOWCASED IMMENSE HOMEGROWN TALENT
TO
GROWING AUDIENCES
The 13th annual Tempo Dance Festival NZ has just wrapped up another successful two week long programme of inspiring dance performances, workshops and industry events. Running from 4-16 October, the Festival featured 58 events and over 760+ artists from across New Zealand, with some international performers travelling in especially for the festival.
Sold out performances ranged from a Jazz dance showcase to a line-up of rising choreographers to a solo show of integrated dance, signalling Aucklanders demand for high calibre and varied dance shows. Dancers ranged from the age of four to 75, with around 100 children aged 4-12 taking part in The Dancer’s Wardrobe season of The Kids Show, and 200 teenagers performing in The Pform.nz season of Ignite!
“Opening the festival with a work that was
originally created over 30 years ago asked the question of;
could a work like Insolent River: a tango still be relevant
today? I think the answer is a resounding YES! From
profound to provocative, from elegant to entertaining, from
athletic to absurd - Tempo represents the incredible variety
of artists creating work today, artists who continue to push
boundaries.
-Carrie Rae Cunningham, Tempo Artistic
Director

“Taumata is billed as four
stunning new works and does not disappoint. The audience
witnesses polished performances of four very different
dances with a contemporary vein. The house is packed and
there is an expectant buzz.”
