Award winning comedy ready to rock The Dark Room
A multi award-winning comedy show is coming to Palmerston North after proving a hit with audiences in Wellington, Dunedin and Sydney.
Running at The Dark Room from 3-5 November, Loose: A Private History of Booze & Iggy Pop 1996-2015 comprises twenty short stories from twenty long years in the life of comedian Jonny Potts. The stories are all true, and each one includes those two constants: drinking booze and listening to Iggy Pop. The constraints may sound straightforward, but from these recurring motifs Jonny has crafted what Theatre Now Sydney said was 'no typical comedy routine. It has heart. There are moments of true warmth, beauty and soul'.
Described as 'startling in its perfectly ordinary wonderfulness' (Theatreview.co.nz), Loose was nominated for seven 2015 NZ Fringe Festival awards and won three - Best Stand Up Comedy, Best Writing, and the inaugural SYNZ Tour Award to perform as part of the 2015 Sydney Fringe Festival. The show was also nominated for Best Comedy in this year’s Dunedin Fringe Festival and the most recent Wellington Comedy Awards, and is set to head to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2017.
“[LOOSE] is like a hilarious, poignant and very intelligent dog that won't let go of your brain"
-Ashleigh Young, Victoria University Press
Jonny's work has been consistently well received in NZ Fringe and NZ International Comedy festivals. He is the host of The Witching Hours and Year of Reading Massively podcasts, a member of the award-winning theatre troupe The Bacchanals, and the co-director of the film company Cinema in Decline. He also runs a monthly alternative comedy night, The Blacklight Comedy Club, showcasing the best and most interesting comedic performers in Wellington.
