records
Samara Wright has her eyes set on a podium finish, and the possibility of breaking the national records she already holds at the Junior National Olympic Weightlifting Championships in Auckland this weekend.
The local 15 year old sensation has already broken three national records as part of her qualification for the Junior Nationals. Samara currently holds the national record for her age and weight category with a 48kg Snatch, 62kg Clean and Jerk, and combined total of 110kg.
Wright’s rapid rise in Olympic Weightlifting has come about through hard work and dedication, she says
“I really enjoy the strength and confidence I’ve gained through lifting, and the mental challenge it provides me. My results have been a bit of a surprise, and I’m thankful for the support of my family, Coach and mates at the gym who have helped me.”
Samara lifts for 41° Weightlifting Club based at MaD Strength & Conditioning in Petone. She has been lifting for less than a year and is ranked first in the new lifter improvement national rankings for this year, having added 32kg to her lifts since the start of the year.
