Sweet Peas for Sweet Louise
This month marks a decade since relatively unknown
charity, Sweet Louise, was founded. It is the only charity
dedicated to supporting New Zealanders with incurable breast
cancer.
New Zealand owned seed company, Kings Seeds jumped at the opportunity to partner with Sweet Louise. In August last year, they lost one of their former team members to breast cancer. Her name was Luisa, so they felt a real connection with Sweet Louise.
Each year 3000 New Zealanders are diagnosed with breast cancer and an estimated 600 of those with incurable breast cancer. The Sweet Louise charity touches the lives of 90% of these people and their families throughout New Zealand
Barbara Martin, Owner, Kings Seeds, says; “Our team lived through part of Luisa’s journey and we were all inspired by her bravery. By pledging a donation to Sweet Louise from purchases of our Sweet Pea Old Spice Antique seed selection we will be helping others like Luisa and their families. As a keen gardener, I think Luisa would have whole heartedly supported the idea of bringing joy and colour into gardens throughout New Zealand whilst supporting the wonderful work of Sweet Louise.”
Sweet Louise, CEO, Fiona Hatton, says; “We are thrilled to be partnering with Kings Seeds around their beautiful Sweet Pea selection. This will enable us to continue to offer tailored practical support services such as help with childcare, housework, wigs, mastectomy underwear and whatever our member’s specific needs are.”
A decade ago, when the Sweet Louise charity
was founded by Scott Perkins, 180 women put their hands up
immediately to be members, which reaffirmed that there was a
huge gap in the support services available to them. Over the
last ten years, Sweet Louise has supported close to 2000
members and is currently touching the lives of 544 members
and their families throughout New Zealand.
