Less than a week to go till BTW Fight Night

Less than seven days to go till BTW Promotions first boxing event, Fight 4 Charity and already things are looking good. September 24th at ABA Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand, Benjamin Watt will be promoting his first event.

The full Fight card will be featuring five corporate bouts and five pro bouts, including two vacant titles will be on the line in the main event. Nailini Helu, who is older sister to Panuve Helu, will be going against Ange Davis for the Vacant New Zealand (NZPBA) Heavyweight Women’s Title and Vacant UBF Asia Pacific title.

Both titles have never had a heavyweight women’s champion before. 22 year old, Tongan born Nailini Helu, holds three golds and one silver in the New Zealand National Amateur Championship. Currently Helu is 2 - 0 in her pro career with three more bouts scheduled this year, including the bout against Davis. It has been noted, if Helu wins all of her scheduled bout this year, she could go for a major world title.

Helu’s opponent, Ange Davis, isn’t exactly unfamiliar to the boxing ring. The 30 year old, New Zealander currently Kickboxing record is 5 - 4 - 1 and a former TBANZ Super Middleweight Kickboxing Champion. Despite her kickboxing career, this is Davis debut pro boxing bout. Davis had some struggles during training for this bout, which put the bout in jeopardy. During this camp, Davis sustained an ankle injury, which the doctors told her she could not compete. However after daily physio and seeing the doctor regularly, Davis has manage to get a doctor's clearance.

Also on the card will be Zane McNab going against Nick Hikuroa. Originally the bout was scheduled for Zane McNab to go against Daniel Maxwell, however due to injury Maxwell had to pull out, with hope to go against McNab in the future. The 37 year old Hamiltonian, holds a gold and a silver in the New Zealand National Amateur boxing championship and a gold and a bronze in the New Zealand Golden Gloves Championship back in the 1990s. McNab had suffered some weight issues during this camp, originally preparing for a bout against Maxwell at 70 kgs, now with a new opponent, McNab needs to lose 4 kgs in a week’s time. McNab has been given plenty of support during his camp, training with people like Jeff Stutt, Shay Brocks at Shane Cameron’s Gym, Panuve and Nailini Helu at Pridelands Boxing and with John Conway at his gym.

The pro card undercard will also feature 2009 New Zealand National Golden Gloves winner Kendall Cooper (2 - 1) vs Jonathan Taylor (2 - 3), 2012 New Zealand Amateur National Championship winner Cheyenne Whaanga (Pro Debut) vs Sarah Long (Kickboxing 3 - 3, Boxing 0 - 1) and Craig Thomson (5 - 0) vs Peter Tovi’o (2 - 23 - 1). The event will also feature music performances from Mika Haka and DJ Siegfried Hans with the announcer being Lt Dan Hennessy.

The event will be raising money for the Mika Haka Foundation, a charitable trust formed to deliver the inclusive vision of successful Maori artist and entertainer, Mika, of an extraordinary future for all young New Zealanders – in particular, young people from diverse backgrounds and marginalized communities.

The purpose of the Mika Haka Foundation Charitable Trust is to support and encourage, in various ways, the development, and discussion of, and public interaction with, different aspects of native cultures. Their work is designed for the benefit of the native cultures and the wider community and address various issues of benefit to native cultures and the wider community.
