Nature On Screen, CLIMATE AND ICE

Nature On Screen, CLIMATE AND ICE
Hawkins Theatre: 16 October 2017, 4.30pm

Nature lovers and movie goers are in for a treat with an award winning New Zealand climate documentary and a compelling presentation from the Forest & Bird national Climate Roadshow.

The Climate Roadshow asks: Who is defending our climate? We hear how nature can help make communities resilient to climate change, and how we can help make nature more resilient.

Protecting nature and the other practical steps we can take to help achieve the Paris Agreement's goal of keeping global warming below 2 degrees is the focus of this persuasive presentation.

The award-winning movie, Thin Ice is not your typical global warming documentary. New Zealand Geologist Simon Lamb takes a look at what’s really happening with global warming by filming scientists at work in the Arctic, the Antarctic and around the world. Along the way, we learn the whys and hows of global warming basics.

Nature on Screen starts at 4.30pm (doors open 4.00pm) at the Hawkins Theatre in Papakura and is an important fundraiser for South Auckland Forest & Bird. Tickets are $8.00 and can be purchased online at eventfinda, at the South Auckland Forest & Bird branch meetings, or from the Hawkins Theatre, open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

Kate Loman-Smith, Deputy Chairman of South Auckland Forest & Bird, explains “We hope this event will be attended by people of all persuasions; deniers and believers alike; the intention is to equip people to begin dialogue within their own communities.”

Movie goers will also be treated to a range of related displays in the foyer at the end of the movie and presentation. Coffee and tea is available plus chances to win a range of environmentally themed raffles.
