Tikapa Productions’ award-winning play Not In Our Neighbourhood is heading to three South Island cities in September.
In partnership with Taki Rua Productions, The Court Theatre and Fortune Theatre, Not In Our Neighbourhood is being staged in Invercargill, Dunedin and Christchurch from Thursday 8 September.
Not In Our Neighbourhood is powerhouse theatre written and directed by 2013 Bruce Mason Playwriting Award winner Jamie McCaskill which had successful seasons at the New Zealand Festival and Auckland Arts Festival earlier this year.
The play follows the experiences of a filmmaker invited to Te Whāriki Manawāhine ō Hauraki, a refuge for women, to document its clients and raise awareness about domestic violence. While there she encounters Sasha, Cat and Teresa – three very different women from different backgrounds each with their own unique story to tell.
Kali Kopae plays five characters in this stellar performance, bringing the voices and experiences of survivors and support workers to the stage with respect, integrity and passion. Not In Our Neighbourhood won Best New New Zealand Play at the 2015 Wellington Theatre Awards with Kali picking up the Best Female Actor Award.
Not In Our Neighbourhood is at the Scottish Hall in Invercargill from 8-10 September with tickets available through TicketDirect www.ticketdirect.co.nz or phone 0800 224 224; at Fortune Theatre, Dunedin from 13-17 September with tickets available through Fortune Theatrewww.fortunetheatre.co.nz or phone (03) 477-8323 and at The Court Theatre in Christchurch from 20-24 September with tickets available from The Court Theatre www.courttheatre.org.nz or phone (03) 963-0870.
