Shotover Canyon Fox ‘coins it’ for local charity

The world’s highest cliff jump operator, Shotover Canyon Swing and Canyon Fox, has raised over $4,450 in support of Bruce Grant Youth Trust.

The tourism superstars held two popular fundraising events, seeing adrenalin junkies jump for the price of a few gold coins on the new Shotover Canyon Fox, with all proceeds going to the charity.

Over 130 Queenstowners attended the ever-popular Locals Weekends to experience the gnarly ‘Zipline/Flying Fox with freefall’. Thrillseekers paid just $35 each, including free GoPro footage, and a sausage sizzle on the deck raised an additional $150.

The annual fundraiser offered adventure-lovers the chance to “get another fix” paying $10 to complete an extra Fox.

Shotover Canyon Swing General Manager Matt Hollyer said he was ecstatic to see locals and visitors buzzing about the Fox, and “doing their bit for charity”.

“It’s phenomenal how so little can go so far. As always our customers have taken a leap of faith for a good cause,” he said.

“Every year we’re blown away by the generosity of others and we’re proud to be able to make a difference to young individuals in the area.

“Together we’ve raised money to support the Trust’s next round of grants later this year.”

Shotover Canyon Swing and Canyon Fox runs its annual fundraising initiative to support local charities, picked each year by the company’s staff.

Bruce Grant trustee Craig Ferguson aka ‘Ferg’ said he was “psyched” with the amount raised from the “foxes”.

“We’re always looking for innovative ways to raise funds for the Trust. Businesses like Shotover Canyon Swing and Canyon Fox help young people under 25 chase their dreams and aspirations,” he said.

“Helping kids follow their dreams is our dream. The grants support the youth of our community including a cricketer in Scotland, a triathlete who’s competed in Japan, a musician heading to the USA, and skiers and snowboarders competing in Europe and North America.

"Throughout its twenty years of business, the Trust has always been amazed and thankful for the fantastic support from our local business community.

“A huge thanks to Matt and team for their efforts. I must say, I’ve never accepted a cheque from 182m above the Shotover River, this was certainly a first!”

The Shotover Canyon Fox drops adrenalin junkies from the world’s first ‘rail launch’ system 182m above the mighty Shotover River.

The Fox takes adventure-lovers out on the rail system before dropping about 5m into thin air and ‘foxing along’ to the other side.

Once there, they’re attached to a more traditional zipline (Line 2) taking them back to base.
