Announcing the Winners of the 2016 Children’s Music Awards

ANNOUNCING THE WINNERS OF THE
2016 CHILDREN’S MUSIC AWARDS

APRA AMCOS and Recorded Music NZ are more than an itty bit excited to announce the winners of 2016 Children’s Music Awards – celebrating those writing and recording for our youngest generation of Kiwi music fans.

Itty Bitty Beats won both the APRA Best Children’s Music Song and Recorded Music Best Children’s Album, taking home the awards for their bilingual lullaby Po Marie (written by Lucy Hiku &Jenny Payne), and album Lay Your Head Down.

Both busy parents as well as writers and performers, the Christchurch duo are committed to making music that is fun and practical, written with both children and parent’s wellbeing in mind. As winners of the APRA Best Children’s Music Song Award, they will receive a $1,000 cash prize and a $10,000 grant to go towards the production of a song and a music video, courtesy of NZ On Air.

‘Congratulations to all of the finalists and especially to Itty Bitty Beats for winning the 2016 Best Children’s Album. Lucy and Jenny have created a beautiful collection of songs and produced such a wonderful album full of soothing lullabies for our littlest music lovers.’ says Damian Vaughan from Recorded Music NZ.

The What Now Best Children’s Music Video was won by Rainbow Rosalind for Aotearoa, Home of Our Hearts. Dunedin-based Rosalind created both the song and the video, receiving the award by the endorsement of her audience - the children of Aotearoa - who voted her as winner via the What Nowwebsite.

“The children’s music scene in New Zealand is positively fizzing” says APRA AMCOS’ Anthony Healey. “There is a dedicated core of writers and performers turning out not just world-class music, but music that feels familiar and that could only have been made here in Aotearoa. Itty Bitty Beats and Rainbow Rosalind are amazing!”

All three awards were presented at a ceremony this evening held in Auckland.

The top songs from the APRA Best Children's Music Song Award will be showcased on MusicBox 2016, a promotional album aimed at spreading the word about the wonderful music being produced for kids in Aotearoa. MusicBox 2016 will be available this month as a free download from www.apraamcos.co.nz, and a limited number of CD albums will be made available to libraries and kid-friendly organisations throughout the country.
