Bluebird skiing at Mt Ruapehu

Bluebird skiing at Mt Ruapehu

Brilliant conditions with fresh snow and fine weather
Far West T Bar to open soon

It’s a winter wonderland at Mt Ruapehu, with excellent conditions for skiers and snowboarders and fine, clear weather expected for the next two to three days.

With the cold snap and snow storms over the past couple of weeks there is now fantastic coverage at both Whakapapa (244cm snow base) and Turoa (225cm snow base).
“We have the best snow coverage we’ve seen in years, and combined with the brilliant clear skies, we’ve got conditions not to be missed. Whether you’re planning to ski, board or just visit the alpine environment, now’s the right time to be here,” says Dave Mazey, CEO of RAL.

“Skiers can also look forward to the Far West T Bar opening for the first time this season within the coming week.
“The new cable we ordered as part of our maintenance program is now onsite and ready to be fitted. We’re hoping that in the coming week we’ll have the several fine days in a row we need to make this happen and get the T Bar up and running,” he says.
Next weekend (20/21 August), the Turoa Slopestyle and Subaru Top Weekend will be held at Turoa Ski Area. Skiiers and snowboarders will vie for the title of the 2016 Turoa Slopestyle champion, competing over rails, jumps and other features, and Subaru drivers will be treated to the first 200 carparks on a first-come, first-served basis each day.

For real-time snow progress, live webcams show up-to-the minute updates for both Whakapapa and Turoa ski areas. For more information, visit www.mtruapehu.com.
