ARTIST'S TALK: SONYA LACEY
Sunday 7 August, 2pm
Wellington-based artist Sonya Lacey’s multi-faceted practice is focused on film and video installations, sculpture and printed matter. To contextualise her filmic work, Newspaper for Vignelli (2010), currently on show at the Adam Art Gallery, Lacey will discuss the shifting authorial aspirations of designers, from the late-modernist Masimo Vignelli to contemporary figures whose publishing and design activities frequently enter the art gallery.
Sonya Lacey completed her MFA at the Elam School of Fine Arts in Auckland in 2007. She has exhibited in public and private galleries throughout New Zealand and her work has been included in the programmes of the Singapore Centre for Contemporary Art; London International Film Festival, and the Govett Brewster Art Gallery. She is part of the two-person collaboration, lightreading, who have exhibited at Artspace (Auckland), St Paul St Gallery (Auckland), David Dale Gallery (Glasgow), Seoul Art Space (South Korea) and The Banff Centre (Canada). She is represented by Robert Heald Gallery, Wellington.
