Speight’s Reveals Winning Finished Projects
Three Kiwi Projects Win $10,000 Well Earned Weekends
The paint is dry, the dirt is dug, and that former rust bucket is now purring in the driveway. Yep, it’s good to knock off an unfinished project – particularly when you can celebrate a job well done with a well-deserved beer!
And that’s exactly what thousands of Kiwis did this year, when they rallied to mates in need and helped them to cross something off their list as part of the Speight’s Unfinished Projects campaign.
If a cold Speight’s wasn’t enough of an incentive, it seems the dangled carrot of three epic $10,000 Well Earned Weekends for them and their mates was the motivation many needed to finally wrap up their unfinished project.
The three winning projects are:
• Matthew Keen (Manawatu): The Spa Boat
• David Fennessy (Canterbury): The Kerrytown Country Club
• Meric Hoffman (Otago): Restore My Sedan Delivery
Project: The Spa Boat
It was nearly the one that got away for Bulls local Matthew Keen, but thanks to a timely kick up the rear end by Speight’s, Mr. Keen will now be relaxing in what he describes as a “fully portable land based spa” or, simply, the “Spa Boat”.
Constructed from a salvaged boat fished from the local river in 2011, the boat is now permanently mounted on a trailer with a hand-built spa in the back. It has all of the bells and whistles that you’d expect (and some that you wouldn’t!) including the unnecessarily necessary personal laser light show and sound system, to really crank up the heat.
The project has taken five years, two girlfriends and 15 mates to finally knock off. A project so intrinsically Kiwi that it was almost inevitable that it would be fished out of the local river, whacked together with some mates and toasted with a couple of cold Speight’s.
Project: The Kerrytown Country Club
With baby number two on the way, and the sudden realisation that he’d be the only male in the house, David Fennessy put out the call. His mates rallied around him and helped him knock together his very own cricket pavilion in the back garden! A male sanctuary in the heart of Canterbury and David’s self-described “time out location” has earned David and his mates a $10,000 Well Earned Weekend from Speight’s.
Project: Restore My Sedan Delivery
Meric Hoffman has been working on restoring his Sedan Delivery for over 20 years and really needed to get it done, “so I can get the chance to enjoy driving it while I still can.” With the help of five mates, and the incentive of a few Speight’s, Meric is now the proud owner of a fully restored Sedan Delivery.
The Speight’s Unfinished Projects campaign attracted thousands of projects listed online, as well as attracting thousands of mates who put their hands up to help out, proving that all it takes is a cold Speight’s and a couple of mates to get the job done!
