Hip Hop Gold Medalists Return To Defend Title at Dance “Olympics”
Kiwi hip hop dance crew The Bradas– the reigning adult world champions – return to Las Vegas in early August to defend their title against competition from crews from 40 other countries.
This group of six talented young men from Auckland have followed an extensive training programme over the last six months to ready themselves for the Hip Hop International competition, which runs from August 8th-13th in Las Vegas.
The Bradas are part of the Identity company IDCowhose crews have come home with medals from the last three Hip Hop International competitions.
The Bradas’ gold medal last year was the dream come true after IDCo Mega crew got silver in 2014 and adult crew Identity came second by 1/100th of a point in 2013.
IDCO director Josh Cesan believes that the Bradasdefinitely have everything it takes to “get the gold “and is looking forward to being there to see them bring it on the world finals stage.
Alongside the Bradas IDCO have two other crews chosen to represent New Zealand at the Las Vegas competition. All-girl crew Masque are competing in the varsity division, while 26 company dancers will compete in the Megacrew division.
The Bradas and other IDCO teams, who’ve all had to fundraise to pay their way to the championships, are humbled by the amazing support they have had from families, friends and the dance community to help them get to the United States. They’re especially grateful to The Dance Studio, Mt Albert Grammar School, Notorious Dance Studio and Kowhai Intermediate for allowing them space to rehearse. Meanwhile local companies Habitat for Fitness, Vada Hair and Russell Athletic have also provided support to help them go for gold.
IDCO director Josh says the IDCO crews definitely have the talent and the drive to do well, and we are all aiming for gold. But at the end of the day, we just want to make sure we have done everything we can to be the best possible representation of ourselves and our country.”
