BTW First Fight for Charity
24 year old, Benjamin Watt will be promoting his first boxing event in Auckland, New Zealand, September this year. This
event will be raising money for the Mika Haka Foundation Charity.
Watt is well known in the LGBT community in New Zealand for his massive amount of community work. In 2010 he spend a
year volunteering for the New Zealand Aids foundation, 2011 he volunteered to be a youth facilitator for two groups that
were part of Rainbow Youth, 2012 he travelled New Zealand to interview the local youth as part of “Pridenz.com” “Q12 The
Tour” and in 2015 Watt became the first openly gay male to have officially judge a professional boxing bout. This year
Watt will be promoting his own boxing event to raise funds for the Mika Haka Foundation.
Watt promotion name is called “BTW Promotions”. “I called it BTW Promo for many reasons... I like to tell people it
means Born To Win, but a couple of people think it actually means By the way, which is amusing” said Watt.
Already confirmed at the event is undefeated boxer Craig Thomson. Thomson who is a friend of Watt, has achieve multiple
milestones in his career, from promoting more events than anyone else in New Zealand with over thirty events and matched
made more boxing events than any other person in New Zealand with over seventy events. Thomson is currently undefeated
with four wins to his name. Thomson is looking to have a busy half of the year by scheduling to fight four times this
year so far, in hopes to fight for a New Zealand title before retiring. Thomson’s opponent is still to be announced on
Watts show.
Also confirmed for the main corporate card will be the rematch between Riaz Ali and David Richmond. The two first fought
each other in September 2015, with Ali coming away with a first round knockout. One year later the two will fight again,
but this time it will be for the first ever New Zealand Corporate Light Heavyweight title.
Watt apparently has big plans for the event already, “There will be music performances, DJ Siegfried Hans is coming out
of retirement and he had a massive 25 year career and Lt Dan Hennessey will be the MC of the night”. Watt is also hoping
to sign on some more Professional bouts as soon as he signs on a couple of sponsors.
