Sensational 10-piece American soul funk band Tower of Power come to New Zealand in October for one show only.
Tower of Power, best known for its powerhouse five-piece horn section, plays at ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre in Auckland on Wednesday 5 October.
Performing since 1968, Tower of Power (or TOP for short) originated in Oakland California and have delivered their own brand of funky rhythms and driving grooves to fans across the world. With a soaring horn section, soulful vocals and inarguably one of the tightest rhythm sections in the business, the funksoul outfit is renowned as a mustsee act.
Combining R’n’B classics with jazzy hits, Tower of Power performs a spectacular concert for intergenerational music lovers featuring lead singer Marcus Scott, known as the “Memphis Soul Man” with a sound which has been described as “electrifying, soulful and compelling”.
The Tower of Power horn section has appeared on a number of other artists’ recordings including Aerosmith, Bonnie Raitt, David Sanborn, Elton John, Huey Lewis, Little Feat, Paula Abdul and Santana.
And they’ve notched up charting hits including You're Still a Young Man, So Very Hard to Go, Soul With a Capital S, Soul Vaccination, What Is Hip?, and Don't Change Horses (in the Middle of a Stream).
