Pass on your Olympic support at Countdown
5 July 2016: Countdown is encouraging customers to leave messages of support for the New Zealand Olympic team at Countdown stores around the country in the lead up to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
With only 32 days to go until the Olympics, from today customers will receive stickers to write notes of inspiration on posters in every Countdown store nationwide, which will be shared with our athletes in the final days before the Games begin.
As a proud sponsor of the New Zealand 2016 Olympic team, Countdown hopes the posters will help inspire our athletes in Rio as they compete with the best in the world.
Countdown’s General Manager Corporate Affairs, James Walker, says Countdown is excited to be the team behind the team, and is thrilled to be able to share messages from all around New Zealand with the Olympic team in Brazil.
“While Rio might be more than 11,000km away, this is an easy way for Kiwis to show their support for our Olympic team the next time they are doing their shopping.
“As a proud sponsor of the New Zealand Olympic team, we wanted to show our athletes the massive amount of pride we all have in them. It’s a nice way that Kiwis can wish them the best as they compete on the world stage,” says Mr Walker.
Kereyn Smith, CEO of the New Zealand Olympic Committee, is excited to see all the messages.
“The New Zealand Olympic team have been working hard to get ready for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, and it will be great for our athletes to read all of the messages from home.
“We’re incredibly excited about Rio and know that these messages of support will inspire our athletes as they go for gold,” says Ms Smith.
The posters will be in store until 24 July. The 2016 Rio Olympic Games kick off on 5 August.
