Lance Bryant wins his first Title

New Zealand boxer Lance Bryant, wins his first professional boxing title in Opunake, New Zealand. Bryant won the Interim NZNBF New Zealand National and Vacant IBO Asia Pacific Cruiserweight title against James Langton.

Originally the bout was scheduled as a rematch between current NZNBF title holder and Rugby League legend Monty Betham against James Langton, However due to Betham receiving a serious injury during training, Betham was out and the 35 year old Bryant was in on a week’s notice. It was announced that the Interim National title and IBO Asia Pacific title will be still on the line.

Bryant now eight wins, three losses, debuted as a professional back in 2014 against Thomas Heads. Bryant has won multiple New Zealand Amateur titles, dating back as earliest as 1995 where he won New Zealand Junior Amateur Title. Bryant has won Amateur titles in Junior, Intermediate and Elite level, however none of those can compare to his professional title wins.

Bryants opponent, 42 year old James Langton, was looking to pick up his second New Zealand title. Langton won his first title against mutual opponent Monty Filimaea, however Langton Lost the title on his first defence against Betham. The former club rugby player Langton, signed onto a rematch back in April.

At this present time, Bryant future is unclear as he has a line of opponents that he could fight, including a rematch with James Langton, Monty Betham when he eventually recovers, NZPBA New Zealand National Champion Asher Derbyshire, Craig Thomson and Nikolas Charalampous.
