New Zealand’s ‘luckiest’ Powerball numbers revealed
With a massive $24 million up for grabs with Powerball on Wednesday, Lotto New Zealand has revealed the country’s
‘luckiest’ Powerball number – number three.
While Powerball 3 isn’t the most frequently drawn number, it is the Powerball number that has changed the lives of the
most Kiwis, with 22 people winning big with Powerball 3 over the years – including the winners of last year’s largest
Powerball prize.
Powerball 3 was the lucky number that changed a Rotorua family’s life overnight in June 2015, as a quick trip to their
local dairy saw them walk away with a cool $24 million prize.
“We had no idea our ticket had all six Lotto numbers and the matching Powerball number,” said the winner at the time. “I
called the family home to tell them. My wife and kids were screaming and jumping up and down in the background.”
The most players to win Powerball on one night was in 2003 when 14 players split a $19 million jackpot, thanks to
Powerball 2.
While the largest-ever Powerball prize of $33 million was won with Powerball 4.
These numbers have proven lucky for some of the country’s biggest prize winners, but there’s no telling which Powerball
number could win a lucky player $24 million tomorrow night.
“Powerball can be won by anyone, anywhere, at any time – it’s all part of the fun. The only thing we can guarantee is
that you can’t win if you don’t have a ticket,” said Emilia Mazur, General Manager, Corporate Communications at Lotto
NZ.
Lotto players can buy a ticket for Wednesday’s $24 million Lotto Powerball draw from any Lotto retailer or online at MyLotto.co.nz.
