Warehouse counter sale to raise funds for Women’s Refuge
MEDIA RELEASE- 30th May 2016
Customers of The Warehouse can do their part to support Women’s Refuge by purchasing a key ring from the counter of every The Warehouse store. Until June 19, funds raised will help Women’s Refuge to continue the work they do with youth.
“Over the years New Zealanders have shown tremendous support and this year, through customers’ purchasing key-rings, we’ll be able to continue the great work we do to help young people live lives free from violence”, Dr Ang Jury CEO of Women’s Refuge says.
Women’s Refuge NZ has been working in partnership with The Warehouse since 2014 with funds raised through counter appeals totalling in excess of $300,000 nationwide.
In addition to providing its network of 92 stores, The Warehouse works with Women’s refuge on a number of initiatives, the latest being the Shielded site, where anyone can seek help or information from Womens Refuge through The Warehouse website without the fear of it showing up in their browser history.
Paul Walsh, The Warehouse, Executive General Manager – Community & Environment said the Shielded site, along with The Warehouse’s Violence is Not Ok policy for team members, illustrates how the partnership has evolved to respond to a social need.
“The Violence is Not Ok policy provides team members who find themselves in a violent situation the ability to take time to seek support,” said Mr Walsh.
The partnership goes well beyond simply fundraising opportunities said Dr Ang Jury.
