David Hamilton Writes New Composition Based On Exhibition.
Each year the Jade String Quartet presents a series of concerts on Sundays at the Pah Homestead, TSB Bank Wallace Arts Centre. Earlier this year saw the first of these concerts in March and this Sunday they will be playing the second concert in this series. The performance will feature Mozart's string quartet no. 16 in E flat major K.428 and Schubert's Death and the Maiden, alongside a new composition by renowned New Zealand composer David Hamilton. Hamilton has written the work ‘Parlour Games’ based of the exhibition currently showing at the Pah Homestead.
The Parlour Games exhibition features works from the Wallace Arts Trust Collection and site-specific installations at the Pah Homestead by four contemporary New Zealand artists: Matt Coldicutt, Philippa Emery, Natalie Guy, and Amy Unkovich. The artists have integrated their own responses to modern life with resonances of past lives echoing in the Victorian domestic period of the Homestead, further articulated by works chosen from the Wallace Arts Trust. This exhibition runs until 26 June.
Jade String Quartet are Miranda Adams, William Hanfling, Robert Ashworth and David Garner, all principal players with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.
Tickets for the concert this Sunday May 15 are $30 Adult / $15 Students, Seniors & friends of the APO and are available to pre-book online at https://purchase.apo.co.nz/single/SelectSeating.aspx?p=733
