Charity Aims to Help Over 1000 Mothers this Mother’s Day
More than 70 percent of the women who go through Dress for Success Auckland (DfSA) looking for help are mothers, a third of which are single mothers. This month, DfSA is launching their annual May I Help? campaign to raise much needed funds to support their service. Their programmes provide clothing, confidence and styling advice, career resources and job retention support for women looking to enter or re-enter the workforce.
“When they come to our office, we give them self-assurance by providing not only clothing, but the advice and ongoing support they need to realise their full potential and secure a job,’ says Lani French, Executive Director. “While we are focussing on mothers this week and the unique role they play in families, communities and society as a whole, we also know that it could easily be your sister, your daughter or your girlfriend who needs the help, support and confidence to transform her life.”
With no direct government funding, DfSA relies on the generosity of the community. Board Member Helen Sedcole says, “We are really fortunate to have regular clothing donations that help, but we can’t pay the rent and the power with clothes, and so like all charities we need help.”
This Mother’s Day, DfSA is asking you to make a donation to purchase an outfit from their Confident Clothing range in your mother’s name. DfSA will send her a photo of the item purchased and a Mother’s Day card showing her how you both have helped empower one mother and one family into financial independence.
