Saturday, For many Pacific island nations, fisheries are the
major source of potential revenue, if they can be managed
successfully and sustainable. New Zealand is putting $50
million towards improving fisheries management systems in
the region, whether that means exporting ideas like quota
management of developing new ideas. Its ambassador to the
region, Shane Jones, has been hosting 40 Pacific fisheries
ministers and officials here to learn about this country's
approach to fisheries management. In Korero Mai Ki Ahau this
Saturday he talks with Eruera Morgan about the challenges
and the opportunities.
On Sunday, Access to tupapaku has long been an area where whanau come into conflict with hospitals, police, coroners and funeral directors. The Maori Affairs Select Committee has launched an inquiry into whether cultural expectations are accounted for in the current system and whether improvements can be made. In Korero Mai Ki Ahau, Eruera Morgan asked Waikato University professor of te reo and tikanga Pou Temara from Ngai Tuhoe about Maori rituals surrounding death and what changes he would like to see.
