Call for submissions for Rekindle's Resource: Rise Again publication
Rekindle’s next project, Resource: Rise Again, is focused on facilitating development of new uses for undervalued resources, in an effort to enable diversion of reusable resources from landfill via design, creativity and craftsmanship.
As part of this project, Rekindle is curating a multi-author journal that explores the pertinent issues related to waste and the environment, and investigates potential for diversion of waste through reuse via design, object-making, craft and other forms of resourcefulness. It will serve as an online platform and archive, as well as a source of information of how change can be implemented. The journal will be designed by Matthew Galloway, and printed via a collaboration with students at the Faculty of Creative Arts at Manukau Institute of Technology. The document itself will be made from wasted resources.
As no one individual or single field of understanding can effectively address the myriad of issues, we are calling out for original, thought-provoking submissions (both written and visual) from a wide range of contributors. Different cultural backgrounds, spiritual understandings, scientific fields, occupations and opinions can all offer critical responses to waste and insight into the way we relate to our resources.
These responses could include, but are not limited to, ideas regarding: environmental concern, sustainable design, kaitiakitanga, reuse, resourcefulness, design, craft/object-making, community resilience, community collaboration, financial viability and waste-minimisation. Each contributor is encouraged to discuss these issues from their own particular perspective and specific field of knowledge.
Through carefully curated written pieces and visual contributions, we hope to gather a spectrum of ideas that builds an in-depth discussion around valuing resources, waste-minimisation, environmental preservation and design for reuse.
This is a unique opportunity for Rekindle and the contributors to make a significant, creative contribution to the field of waste-minimisation and landfill diversion.
Please send your submissions and expressions of interest to info@rekindle.org.nz by 29 April 2016. Pitches should be maximum one page and include a description of the idea and the contributor’s relevant experience. If accepted, first drafts will be due in mid-June 2016.
