NZ dancers crowned World Salsa Champions
NZ dancers crowned World Salsa Champions
On March
11-13, 2016 New Zealand salsa dance
representatives and One Tree Hill (AKL) residents
Giancarlo & Masha
Johansson took out the top prize at
the World Salsa Championship Professional category
at the Hong Kong Salsa Festival.
Quote from DANZ
magazine; "This is the first time New Zealand
has had a Professional World Salsa Champion couple. The
world-title journey has been a long and arduous one for the
couple - since 2011 in fact! A combination of fierce
competition, different competition formats and illness held
the top spot just out of reach. But, now, the team's hard
work and dedication has deservedly seen them take it
away!"

In
2012 the couple took out 2nd place at the same competition
featured in The Aucklander;

Since
the article above, they have competed at 3 world
championships being just outside of the top spot, placing in
the top 4 (3rd, 4th and 4th).
Giancarlo & Masha have been
dancing competitively together since 2006 (10 years) and are
multiple national and international salsa dance champions.
In fact New Zealand’s most successful salsa dance couple
of all time.
Taking out the 2016 World Salsa
Championships in Hong Kong is the result of lots of hard
work, persistence and dedication.
The couple are
begin featured tonight on TV show “The Beat Goes
On”;

Up
next for the duo is the FANIA World Salsa Championships 7-11
December, 2016 in Atlanta, USA.
The FANIA World Salsa
Championships is a closed competition where only the
world’s elite salsa dance couples who have won recognised
world competitions and other international competitions, are
exclusively selected by the organising committee and
approved by the head judge of the competition. No other New
Zealand dancers have ever been invited to such exclusive
competition.
