Final weeks to see Air New Zealand 75 Years: Our Nation. The World. Connected
At Auckland Museum
CLOSING 22 MAY 2016
There are only six weeks left to experience Air New Zealand 75 Years at Auckland War Memorial Museum. The hugely popular exhibition has had more than 200,000 visitors since opening in November last year.
Air New Zealand’s Boeing 737 cockpit nose, which sits just outside the museum’s front doors, has also proved popular with 40,000 people coming to "Pose with the Nose".
During the upcoming school holidays visitors can meet and interact with two actors posing as ‘High Flyers’- 'Vivian Walsh' from the New Zealand Flying School and ‘Barbara’, a glamourous frequent flyer of the replica of the TEAL Solent flying boat from the 1950s.
Other fun activities for kids involve interactive touch screen games, decorating an airplane to print as a paper plane at home and having a go at boarding a plane with the ‘Now Boarding’ simulator game. Visitors can also see the ‘View from the Flight Deck’ - a pilot’s view of a plane landing at Auckland Airport as well as explore the flight deck of a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner through an interactive screen. Children can play dress up as pilots or flight attendants, while those over seven years old can experience the Virtual Flight Lab and experience the future of inflight entertainment.
The success of the exhibition has been welcomed by Auckland Museum Director of Public Experience, Sally Manuireva.
“We are thrilled that so many visitors from Auckland and beyond have enjoyed this special exhibition and engaged with a fascinating part of New Zealand history.”
Air New Zealand’s Head of Global Brand Development Jodi Williams says the exhibition’s elements span decades and appeal to all ages.
“From a virtual reality future cabin and historical collections, to a display of uniforms through the decades and dress ups for children, there really is something for everyone.”
Featuring the tales, technology and glamour of flying, the exhibition explores Air New Zealand's 75 years of growth and innovation and tells the story of New Zealand's national airline through the experiences of the people: airline staff and passengers.
Air New Zealand 75 Years: Our Nation. The World. Connected closes Sunday 22 May 2016. Free with Museum Entry.
“Meet The High Flyers” runs during the school holidays, 18 - 29 April, Mon-Fri, 10am-3pm.
