ARL set for JETS Camp
ARL set for JETS Camp
Over one hundred 12-17 year old Auckland players will receive a development boost as part of the ARL JETS (Junior Educational Training System) Camp this weekend - a 30% increase from 2015 and the largest camp in ARL history.
Held at Camp Adair in Hunua, the JETS programme supports the development of young players in both on and off field capacities through lectures and practical skills.
Training lessons this year will be delivered by former Kiwi Ferns coach Rusty Matua, current Warriors ISP/NSW Cup assistant coach Ricky Henry and former Mt Albert Fox and Akarana premiers coach Steve Buckingham.
Off-field development will again be a key focus at this year's camp with Youthline delivering a presentation.
The three-day camp will also see players aged 15-17 put through a compulsory introduction to refereeing course to help them better understand rules, giving them the opportunity to take up the whistle and the option of giving back to the game through officiating.
ARL football development officer James Pulehega said the camp will prepare the attendees well ahead of the 2016 season.
"We will be teaching new skills to the 110 players attending. They will gain valuable knowledge from some of New Zealand's top coaches, both former and present.
"Players can expect to be thrown out of their comfort zone at this weekend's camp, but there will be opportunities to have a laugh and let loose."
The ARL JETS Camp is scheduled to kick-off this evening and will conclude on Sunday afternoon.
