Oriini Tipene-Leach to host tenth season of Native Affairs
Native Affairs returns to Māori Television at 8pm tonight, celebrating its tenth season on air with a refreshed,
30-minute format and new presenter, Oriini Tipene-Leach.
The decade benchmark continues Māori Television’s commitment to quality journalism and supports its strategy to be the
leader in Māori news and current affairs.
Head of News and Current Affairs Maramena Roderick says that after nine years, Native Affairs has earned a refresh.
“The team is a powerful line-up of respected Māori broadcasters who have extensive networks throughout the Māori world.
They are known and trusted.”
For Oriini, the chance to be part of change was exciting.
“Native Affairs is an effective voice for our people, told by Māori. I’m very proud to return to Māori Television to
represent unique, indigenous perspectives,” Oriini says.
Oriini will join the team of Wena Harawira, Matai Rangi Smith (Australian correspondent), Wepiha Te Kanawa, Renee
Kahukura, Iulia Leilua and Ward Kamo.
The new season of Native Affairs will be feature story driven with a single presenter format.
As part of its further commitment to news and current affairs, Māori Television has also launched a pacey news talk show
Kawe Kōrero: Reporters, hosted by another new team member Kawe Roes. The show features broadcasters from around the
country dissecting the day’s news and is on the Te Reo channel at 6.30pm, then replayed on Māori Television following
the late night Te Kāea news bulletin.
