Aucktet Trombone Day
Aucktet Trombone Day - workshops, masterclasses and gala concert
If you are going to make an ensemble of eight of the same instruments you’d better choose a good one! Clearly there is one choice, the trombone.
Aucktet is a trombone octet made up of professional Auckland trombonists from a range of musical backgrounds including orchestral, brass band and jazz, and has performed school concerts and educational workshops. In 2015 they had two concerts as part of the Auckland Philharmonia’s In Your Neighbourhood concert series – Trombone Tones.

This year is the first ever Aucktet Trombone Day, to be held on April 9 at St. Mary's College in Ponsonby. Over the course of the day, participants will have the opportunity to take part in interactive workshops and masterclasses on all things brass, led by the members of the Aucktet. This is a fantastic chance for trombonists, baritone hornists, and euphonium players of any level to benefit from the wide range of experience, knowledge and playing styles within the Aucktet. The day will end with a free gala concert performed by the Aucktet trombone ensemble. As the grand finale, all participants will perform in the world premiere of a new piece for massed brass choir, composed by bass trombonist Pablo Ruiz Henao.
The Aucktet is made up of nine members: Douglas Cross, Mark Close, Tim Sutton, Ben Zibler, Grant Sinclair, Hadyn Godfrey, Make Ashton, John Gluyas and Pablo Ruiz Henao.
