French ensemble Les Talens Lyriques Performs in Wellington on Debut New Zealand Tour in April
Featuring internationally acclaimed harpsichordist Christophe Rousset


Travel back in time to the dazzling elegance and indulgent court of France’s Louis XIV, the Sun King, with French ensemble Les Talens Lyriques on their New Zealand debut tour in April.

Led by internationally acclaimed harpsichordistChristophe Rousset, Les Talens Lyriquesperforms in Wellington on Wednesday 13 April on their five centre tour which also includes Auckland, Hamilton, Christchurch and Dunedin as part of Chamber Music New Zealand’s 2016 Kaleidoscopes season.


Known as the outstanding harpsichordist of his generation, Christophe Rousset describes his instrument as a “time machine – it really does take you back to another era”. He brings three leading members of his ensemble, Gilone Gaubert-Jacques (violin), Gabriel Grosbard (violin) and Atsushi Sakai (viola da gamba) on their first New Zealand visit.

Les Talens Lyriques marks its 25th anniversary later this year and explores repertoire from early Baroque to the Romantics, performing great masterpieces and little known unpublished work.

In New Zealand Les Talens Lyriques: L’Esprit Français features a varied programme of suites, sonatas and character pieces to bring a taste of the court of the Sun King to New Zealand.

The concert also includes ‘The Versailles Experience’ – an opportunity to find out more about the music of Versailles in the time of the Sun King. Chamber Music New Zealand chief executive Peter Walls will relate Couperin, Marais (Tous les Matins du Monde) and Rameau to art and architecture in the age of Molière and Racine.

The Wellington concert will also be audio described for patrons with low vision.
