ABE’S Bagels Teddy Bears Picnic set for Sunday, 28 February

ABE’S Bagels Teddy Bears Picnic set for Sunday, 28 February

Western Springs Lakeside will come alive tomorrow (Sunday, 28 February) with picnic baskets & teddy bears at the 33rd running of the ABE’S Bagels Teddy Bears Picnic from 10am – 3pm. This iconic Auckland event is now the longest running event of its kind in the country.

This year’s ABE’S Bagels Teddy Bears Picnic will transform the lakeside park with an array of free activities for kids from stage shows to strolling performers, musicians to magicians.

A star of the show will be “Po” - the beloved Panda Bear from “Kung Fu Panda 3”. He is getting ready to hit the big screen with the new movie on the 24th of March, but is taking a break from his secret Panda Village in China to join thousands of other bears at the ABE’S Bagels Teddy Bears Picnic.

Po will also appear on one of the two stages set up for the picnic. Other shows include “The Neverland Show”, the Bruce & Bruce Adventure, NZ International Dance School, Molly the Pirate Show and well-known magician – Alan Watson.

Another highlight will be face painting from the Face Art team who will transform kids into various characters. They are promoting a safe face-painting campaign which invites people to swap their old face paint with new, safe face paint, as well as creating a unique artwork with the old face paint.

A new feature area this year is the Vitafresh Funzone, which will be filled with inflatable fun and games. The Funzone’s obstacle course, bouncy castle and giant slides will have kids grinning from ear to ear. Vitafresh will be giving away samples of their new Made For Kids fruit drink which is 98% sugar free and has no artificial colours or preservatives.

The popular Fairy Grotto is back with ‘The Enchanted Party’ presenting an entourage of fairies and pixies in a lively interactive show amongst the trees.

In looking ahead to this year’s event, Event Director Leehane Stowers said – “we can’t wait to see the Western Springs Lakeside come alive with activities, kids and bears this year. We are delighted to have Po attending to have photos and interact with the kids.”

The ABE’S Bagel’s Teddy Bears Picnic will bring Western Springs Lakeside alive on Sunday, 28 February from 10am – 3pm. The official charity for this year’s ABE’S Bagel’s Teddy Bears Picnic is the Child Cancer Foundation.
