American MC, poet, producer,visual artist,
performer and publisher, BLACK CRACKER to
New Zealand for the very first time.
This March , as part of “ THE BILL ” a programme of exhibitions and events marking the 30th anniversary of the 1986 Homosexual Law Reform Act in New Zealand Aotearoa Black Cracker will collaborate with a locally based choir to produce a sound art piece, performed during Auckland Art Festival’s White Night “Since moving to Auckland, and experiencing Aotearoa’s unique context, I have been imagining a musical collaborator for a piece to reflect on the physical, cultural and more importantly, the political context of our community. I imagined hearing Black Cracker on K’Road, or at Piha beach. This queer story with an interest on hypermasculinity will have a New Zealand chapter now, and Artspace is so proud to be able to host him here” says Artspace Director/Curator Misal Adnan Yıldız.
After releasing his album “ Poster Boy ” in 2014 Black Cracker performed in Berlin’s Yo! Sissy Festival 2015 alongside Peaches, the Pet Shop Boys and Christeene plus many more.
