New First Lady of Comedy Rock n Roll Ready to Storm Christchurch
Christchurch will be one of the first cities to see The Axis of Awesome since lead singer Jordan Raskopoulos announced
her transition. Jordan made the announcement on Monday via a video entitled “What’s happened to Jordan’s beard?” which
has already received over 61,000 views and continues to receive media attention around the world.
Jordan Raskopoulos, Lee Naimo and Benny Davis’ putative comedy rock band was a product of their meeting at the
University of Sydney. Since then, The AoA have made regular TV appearances in Australia, the UK, USA and Sweden, and
have produced five studio albums: “Scissors, Paper, ROCK!”, “Infinity Rock Explosion”, “Animal Vehicle”, “Cry Yourself a
River” and “Christmawesome”, as well as a DVD, “The Axis of Awesome Live”. When not on stage together, Jordan, Lee and
Benny also work as professional actors, television writers, composers, improv champions and sketch comedians, and
brought that background to their innovative web series Axis All Areas on Youtube (which netted them “Best Channel” at
the 2014 Online Video Awards). Their comedy tunes have been viewed over 120,000,000 times on YouTube - that’s not a typo
– they’ve had over One Hundred and Twenty-Million YouTube views. They’ve even got a plaque from YouTube commemorating
that achievement. A PLAQUE!
With the big announcement out of the way, The Axis of Awesome will be taking their latest show ‘Not Ever Gonna Stop
Never Giving Up’ on tour and Chch is lucky enough to be their second stop. The band will be in the city to headline the
GoMedia Comedy Carnival, a brand new three week festival of comedy, running from March 15th till April 2nd. Organised by
local comedy promotion company Grandpa Figs, the festival has attracted some pretty big names for it’s inaugural year,
including Gish, Cori Gonzalez-Macuer, Jamaine Ross and Jarred Fell.
