Kendrick Lamar is Coming to Auckland City Limits Wth Five Grammys And a Concert Length Set
Kendrick Lamar walked away with five Grammys yesterday including Best Rap Album and worldwide acclaim for his performance on the televised show.
Lamar makes his only appearance in New Zealand at Auckland City Limits in March and promoters confirm he will perform a concert-length set with his live band.
The Verge reported from the Grammys, “The rapper delivered the performance of the night, walking out as part of a chain gang to perform "The Blacker The Berry" with his band locked inside jail cells.
“Lamar followed up the striking visuals by performing "Alright" in front of a giant bonfire, and transitioned into a never before heard song utilizing some fast action camera work, before ending his performance with the word Compton over an image of Africa in one of the most striking performances to hit the Grammy stage in years.”
Performing on the Grammy stage with Lamar was saxophonist Kamasi Washington, another incredible artist in the Auckland City Limits lineup.
The Grammy haul is added to a slew of accolades for To Pimp A Butterfly -- a practically unanimous winner of critical best album awards including one from President Barack Obama.
Arguably the most important music and cultural headliner to take the stage at Western Springs since Bob Marley, Kendrick Lamar is not to be missed at Auckland City Limits on 19 March.
