Kiwi stars Shane & Nerida Cortese sashay back to Napier for Art Deco Festival

New Zealand’s golden couple Shane & Nerida Cortese will be heading to Napier this weekend to take part in the Art Deco Festival celebrations.

The couple, famed for dancing their way to happiness on Dancing with the Stars have long been fans of Art Deco and will be returning to this iconic festival for the third year in a row.

Shane Cortese is one of New Zealand’s most recognisable performers with a multitude of television, film, theatre and Music credits to his name. He is best known for his roles as Mac in TVNZ Hit Drama ‘Nothing Trivial, Hayden Peters in five series of Outrageous Fortune, and three years as Loki/Colin in TV3’s “The Almighty Johnsons.” His Roles on Nothing Trivial and The Almighty Johnsons have earned him 2013,2014 and 2015 TV Guide Best on The Box ‘Best Actor” Award.

Shane Cortese says “I just love the party atmosphere of the Festival. The cars, the people and their enthusiasm is infectious and I just love being amongst it” Cortese said he was also looking forward to sampling Hawke’s Bay’s great food and wine.

Originally from Australia, Nerida is a professional dancer who has represented New Zealand & Australia in Dancesport competitions around the world. She has also been a dance star in the 2006 and 2015 “Dancing with the Stars” TV show, and TV3’s “So you think you can Dance”

Nerida Cortese said she was looking forward to slipping on her dancing shoes for the weekend. ‘I think the Charleston is one of the most fun dances to do and there is no better place to dance it than the Art Deco Festival”.

The couple will attend several of the weekend’s events including the Vintage Car Parade, “Costumes and Coiffures & Bathing Belles Fashion Show” on Saturday 2pm in the Napier Sound Shell which will be MC’d by the couple, Shanghai Nights and the Gatsby Picnic on Sunday.

Art Deco Trust General Manager Sally Jackson says “Art Deco Weekend is a celebration of music, dance, fashion and styles of the 1930s and we are delighted to have Shane & Nerida Cortese return as our official New Zealand ambassadors. They are both extremely talented national stars in their chosen fields with a genuine affection and understanding of the Art Deco era”

Art Deco Weekend is a four day festival in Napier that celebrates the cities Art Deco heritage and culture that arose from the 7.8 earthquake in 1931. Over 200 events take place with a grand total of 40 000 people in attendance.
