Pulp culture fans spoilt for choice at Armageddon Expos in 2016
Armageddon Expo’s conquest of New Zealand continues unabated as South Auckland fans prepare for the first Manukau event on March 5 and 6, 2016. The annual Expos dominate every pop culture fans’ calendar throughout the country and director Bill Geradts says staging the Manukau event was a no-brainer.
“More than 65,000 people attended the Auckland Armageddon Expo in October and it is reaching capacity. We want to ensure everyone has a positive experience and can make the most of their Armageddon visit so a South Auckland event made sense. We know we have a huge fan base there, the Vodafone Events Centre is an excellent venue, and we have put together a fantastic lineup that is seeing tickets already being snapped up.”
Headlining the March event is MacGyver and Stargate SG-1 star Richard Dean Anderson, making a return visit to New Zealand as an Armageddon guest. Following Manukau, he will head south to the Christchurch show on March 12 to 13 at Horncastle Arena.
“We are delighted that Richard Dean Anderson is back and that fans from other centres can meet him and hear about his experiences, " says Geradts. “We know he is looking forward to seeing more of New Zealand - perhaps our No 8 wire DIY mentality appeals to him.”
However in South Auckland, Anderson might be outshone by former WWF and WWC wrestling legend Tonga 'Uli'uli Fifita, aka King Tonga aka Haku. The big Tongan is spoken of in wrestling circles as “the toughest man to step in the ring.” He will also attend the Christchurch show.
Haku and Anderson head a stellar line-up of international guests, including fellow Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis actors Michael Shanks (Dr. Daniel Jackson), Corin Nemec (Jonas Quinn), and David Nykl (Dr. Radek Zelenka), Game of Thrones and Star Wars -the Force Awakens star Miltos Yorolemou (Syrio Forel), and Supernatural’s devilish witch Ruth Connell (Rowena). Star Trek - Next Generation fans will be delighted that the lovely Marina Sirtis (Counselor Deanna Troi) will be appearing at the Manukau, Christchurch and Dunedin shows.
However, pulp culture shows are also about cosplay and fun, and two of its cosplay stars, Monika Lee and Riddle’s Messy Wardrobe, will bring the best of their creativity to the Manukau and Christchurch shows. If your taste runs to comedy, You Tube’s Hillywood Show comedy sister duo Hilly and Hannah Hindi are bringing their parodies of blockbuster films and TV shows to the show.
No Armageddon show is complete without its animation and comic book stars, and comic book artists Dean Rankin and Charles Soule, and animation voice actors William Sayers (the Regular Show), Paul Eiding (Ben 10) and Mike McFarland (DragonBall Z) bring their many talents and personal stories to share with fans.
With five events across New Zealand throughout 2016, the country is assured of a plentiful supply of superheroes, zombies, sci-fi monsters, real-life anime characters, and animation stars to keep the most ardent fans happy.
