Chinese Celebrity Power Couple Choose Waitomo
Nicky Wu and Liu Shishi at Waitomo Caves
Chinese celebrity power couple, Nicky Wu (China’s answer to Justin Timberlake) and popular actress, Liu Shishi, have chosen Waitomo Glowworm Caves to take their pre-wedding photos. This week they brought with them world-renowned fashion photographer, Liu Zongyuan, who has had his work featured on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar, Vision and many more.
Chinese custom sees couples have photos taken ahead of their nuptials to share with their guests - the more unique and spectacular the backdrop, the better.
The couple, who met on set in 2013, worked through the night at Waitomo Glowworm Caves amidst delicate limestone formations, precious glowworms and running water in the dark underground cave in order to capture the magic of the unique landscape.
Gordon Hewston, Operations Manager at Waitomo Glowworm Caves, says: “We’re honoured to have Nicky and Liu select Waitomo Glowworm Caves as the location for their photos. While it is a challenging environment to shoot in – the caves are an incredible environment and we were pleased to be able to make this happen for them. Nicky and Liu’s celebrity status means this unique NZ setting will be shared with a huge international audience .”
With Wu boasting 40 million fans on Weibo the couple are among China’s mega famous and their wedding is planned for some time in March. According to the groom himself, he has “no budget cap.”
The epic photos taken in Waitomo Glowworm Caves marks just the beginning of a wedding extravaganza that will be of Kim and Kanyesk proportions.
“Waitomo Glowworm Caves continues to increase in popularity with international visitors,” said Hewston. “We always have great feedback from Chinese visitors about how much they love the experience and Nicky and Liu choosing to have their photos taken here, just shows that the caves are renowned even amongst the celebrity elite.”
Other famous tourists who have visited Waitomo include: Katy Perry, Snoop Dogg, Nitro Circus and Joss Stone.
