Cardrona Hosts Carting Fundraiser in Wanaka

Cardrona Hosts Carting Fundraiser in Wanaka for Adaptive Snow Sports

Cardrona Alpine Resort are bringing their all-new mountain carts from the peaks to central Wanaka, in a fundraiser for Adaptive Snow Sports New Zealand.

On Saturday (February 6), ten mountain carts will be transported to Lismore Park in Wanaka. This family event will give members of the public an opportunity to try out the carts free of charge, with the option to donate towards Adaptive Snow Sports NZ if desired.

“This is a great opportunity for us to do something positive in our community for such a great cause,” says Cardrona’s General Manager Bridget Legnavsky. “We’re also beyond excited to show Wanaka what our brand new alpine toys can do!”

Cardrona is the first alpine resort in the Southern Hemisphere with mountain carts, which were designed and produced in Germany. The three-wheeled carts have a low centre of gravity, hydraulic disc brakes and are a fun alternative to other summer alpine activities like mountain biking.

Usually on the mountain, the carts are ridden down purpose-built tracks under McDougall’s Quad where they are loaded onto chairlifts. On Saturday, the carts and riders will zoom down a marked track through the park until they reach the bottom of the course, where a car and trailer await to take the carts back to the top.

Saturday’s event will run from 6pm until late, with all funds raised going to Adaptive Snow Sports New Zealand. All ages are welcome, however any children under 120cm will need to ride tandem with an adult.
