Sports Stars come out to play at Wellington Cup
The Wellington Racing Club is proud to announce some of New Zealand’s top sports stars are coming out to play for Wallaceville Estate Wellington Cup Day on Saturday 23rd January.
They include the entire Wellington Hurricanes squad, who will mix and mingle with the public - signing autographs and posing for photos.
Beauden Barrett, Victor Vito, Julian and Ardie Savea will help judge the Fashion stakes. Ardie, who has a keen interest in fashion will be dressing himself, Julian and their partners on Cup Day.
“Wellington Cup will be the first time our full squad and partners are together for the 2016 season. We’re really excited to have the opportunity to connect with the people of Wellington in preparation for another blockbuster season,” says Ardie Savea.
The women’s Black Sticks will also be attending the event - appearing on the fashion stage. The glamour girls of New Zealand sport finished runners up at the recent Hockey World League Final in Argentina.
“It’s not often we get the opportunity to get glammed up so the whole team are really looking forward to Cup Day. We’re going to have to be on our toes though - Wellingtonians are renowned for their impeccable standard of dress!” says Black Sticks Fullback Kayla Whitelock.
Wellington Racing Club CEO Alasdair Robertson says having the Hurricanes and the Black Sticks women part of Cup Day will make it one of the biggest summer sporting events the city has ever seen.
“Wellington Cup Day is the ‘must do’ event of the city’s social calendar, but having so many stars and celebrities in one place at the one time will take it to a whole new level of glamour – this is an event not to be missed!”
Thousands of visitors will arrive in the city for what is the hospitality industry’s biggest fortnight of festivities starting with Tui Super Saturday at Trentham, followed by the Wallaceville Estate Wellington Cup and the Wellington Sevens.
Hurricanes players will be available outside the “Hurricanes Zone” from 2 – 2.15pm and 2.30pm – 2.45pm. The Black Sticks will appear on the fashion stage at 3pm. Ticketing and event information is available at www.trentham.co.nz.
