Nelson Opera in the Park is back for 2016

Pack a picnic and head along to Trafalgar Park to enjoy some of New Zealand’s best opera singers and a stellar line up of contemporary performers at Nelson Opera in the Park on Saturday 13 February 2016.

“We’re thrilled to be bringing back one of Nelson’s most popular events,” says Nelson City Council Manager Community Partnerships, Shanine Hermsen.

“With affordable ticket prices, Nelson Opera in the Park really is a world class event that everyone can enjoy,” she says.

This year’s programme includes performances by New Zealand born soprano star Anna Leese and Christchurch-raised, internationally trained opera baritone Jared Holt,supported by accomplished conductor Marc Taddei and Orchestra Wellington.

They will be performing alongside the runaway hit of the 2014 Nelson Arts Festival, Modern Māori Quartet, and kiwi favourites Dave Dobbyn and Jackie Clarke. Pre-show entertainment will be supplied by Auckland based Jubilation Choir.

Available from TicketDirect, early bird tickets are $15 for adults (up to 31st January 2016), full price adult $25, $5 for children aged 5 – 15, and under 5’s are free. Prices exclude TicketDirect service fees. Tickets are also available through all TicketDirect outlets (Theatre Royal Nelson, Richmond Mall, Nelson i-SITE).

Pay it forward tickets are also on offer, where Opera goers are able to purchase an extra ticket or two, which will be gifted to someone who otherwise would not have the means to experience this very special event.

Mayor Reese says this initiative is a first and one which she hopes will invoke community spirit.

“The idea is essentially giving more people the ability to experience a world class event in their own backyard and I hope to see many people taking the opportunity to gift a ticket,” she says.

Opera in the Park is presented by the Nelson City Council as part of the Summer Events 2015/16 programme, a celebration for locals and an added attraction for visitors.
