The X-Files, The Simpsons and Family Guy coming to TV2

The X-Files, The Simpsons and Family Guy are all coming to TV2 in 2016

Mulder and Scully, Bart and Lisa and the one and only Stewie are all coming to TV2 in early 2016, with TVNZ securing the local rights to screen all new episodes of FOX series The X-Files, The Simpsons and Family Guy.

Andrew Shaw, TVNZ’s General Manager of Commissioning, Production and Acquisitions says these series will bring loyal and passionate viewers with them, as well as win over many new fans when they join the TV2 line-up in the new year.

“They are the perfect fit for New Zealand’s biggest entertainment channel. The X-Files will be one of 2016’s most talked about shows and this deal means New Zealand viewers will see it on TV2 immediately following US broadcast in January.

"The X-Files was the definitive sci-fi drama of the nineties – and this highly anticipated reboot sees David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson return as Mulder and Scully,” says Shaw.

The next chapter of The X-Files is a highly anticipated, six-episode event series helmed by creator/executive producer Chris Carter and starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as iconic FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. An Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, The X-Files remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history, and makes its return 13 years after the original series concluded.

The new deal between Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution and TVNZ also includes The X-Files Essential Collection, 20 remastered episodes selected by the show’s creator, Chris Carter.

TV2 will also have all new episodes of The Simpsons and Family Guy in 2016, as well as earlier episodes from the well-stocked libraries of both shows.

Shaw says it’s very exciting to see The Simpsons return home to TV2 and to be able to add Family Guy to the slate.

Richard Samuels, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of FOX in Australia, says: “Both The Simpsons and Family Guy have had a significant presence in New Zealand for many years and Kiwi audiences have long welcomed the Simpson and Griffin families into their homes. We look forward to partnering with TVNZ as they prepare to introduce both ground-breaking shows to their schedule in 2016.”

The deal further strengthens TVNZ’s on-air and online offering. It also expands TVNZ’s relationship with FOX – the creators of the hit Empire, which launched on TV2 last year.
