Auckland Welcomes ID Fashion Week
A capacity crowd made up of fashion designers, media
and sponsors enjoyed iD Dunedin Fashion Week’s first event
in Auckland – a catwalk show offering a taste of the
iconic fashion event, featuring emerging designer fashion,
and collections from iD’s popular labels, NOM*d, Company
of Strangers, Mild-Red and CARLSON.
Sponsored by Holden New Zealand, the show – Adorn: A Glimpse of iD Dunedin Fashion Week – showed six emerging designer collections selected from the Otago Polytechnic to show at the iD Fashion Show to be held at the Railway Station on Friday March 18 and Saturday March 19, 2016.
Alongside the Otago Polytechnic selection was the first iD International Emerging Designer Awards finalist selected – Chen Yi from Shanghai University of Engineering Science. Yi was offered automatic entry into the Awards following Otago Polytechnic’s Collections 2015 show where eight Shanghai emerging designers showed their graduating collections.
iD Dunedin Fashion Week’s new 2016 image, created by Dunedin-based designer Luke Johnston and shot by Sydney-based fashion photographer David Shields and featuring Ali Mcd Agency models Tommy Spence and Clementine George, was also unveilled at the show. The pair, wearing looks from NOM*d and Company of Strangers, have recently signed international contracts with NEXT Model Management.
iD Committtee Chair Cherry Lucas says the event was intended to raise the profile of Dunedin fashion, and the city’s events in Auckland.
“Bringing iD to the Auckland market has been on our strategic plan for several years and we are grateful for the support Holden New Zealand has shown in helping to make this event happen.
“As Otago Polytechnic announces that it will open up postgraduate fashion education courses in Auckland, it seemed the perfect timing to deliver a taste of emerging design from our city alongside our stable of iD’s favourite designers to Auckland audiences.”
Now in its 17th year iD Dunedin Fashion Week (March 12-20, 2016), supported by Dunedin City Council, has grown from a one-off catwalk show in a local bar featuring local Dunedin designers to an international fashion week featuring runway shows, exhibitions, installations, designer talks and retail events.
The week culminates in the iD International Emerging Designer Awards, supported by the Otago Polytechnic, Australasia’s only international emerging fashion design competition, held on Thursday March 17, which attracts new designers from around the world looking to launch their careers on an international stage. The following nights offer the iD Fashion Show held at Dunedin’s Railway Station which features New Zealand designers, emerging designers and an international guest.
