New Sponsor Takes Premier Vegetable Competition to Next Level
New Zealand’s Vegetarian Dish Challenge 2016 announced
The country’s premier vegetable competition, The New Zealand Vegetarian Dish Challenge 2016, is stepping up a level this year with a new look and sponsor.
The New Zealand Vegetarian Dish Challenge 2016 welcomes Life Health Foods which is known for its innovative plant based food brands, including Lisa’s, Olive Grove, Kato, Bean Supreme, Naked Cuisine, Prep Kitchen & Food By Chefs.
This year’s competition will see the inclusion of Olive Grove Falafel, Bean Supreme Tofu or Bean Supreme vegetarian breakfast sausages in the ingredient list, giving chefs a wide brief to create their best vegetarian dish.
Competition organiser and food services consultant, Pip Duncan of vegetables.co.nz, said chefs are being challenged to deliver imaginative and tasty vegetable dishes on a daily basis, and not just for dinner.
“With a growing number of people choosing to eat a plant based diet as well as those who just want variety when eating out, chefs are being called upon to create imaginative and tasty vegetable dishes for all times of day.
“We are delighted that Life Health Foods has joined our stable of sponsors. The wonderful range of innovative products they offer will provide chefs with endless ideas and give them the opportunity to really shine in the 2016 challenge.”
The 2015 competition attracted more than 200 entries from chefs across the three categories of breakfast/brunch, lunch and dinner/fine dining.
Entries open 1 March 2016 and chefs have until 30 April to supply their dish’s recipe and photograph. The top three finalists from each category will be announced in May and the winners in July.
The three winners will each be awarded a New Zealand Vegetarian Dish winner plate, a Samsung 1100w-semi commercial programmable microwave and an Air New Zealand mystery weekend voucher worth $1200.

Now in its fifth year, the New Zealand Vegetarian Dish Challenge is also sponsored by foodservice and hospitality distributor, Bidvest, Choice Catering Equipment and Vegetables.co.nz.
