JANUARY 10TH: SEVEN DAVIS JR. + FRANCIS INFERNO ORCHESTRA

Born in Texas, residing in Los Angeles, California. Seven Davis Jr was raised on the classics – from Michael Jackson and Prince to Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin. His early self-released output, however, was more closely aligned to the vibrant left-leaning electronic underground scenes of Los Angeles and Northern California with listeners often comparing his sounds to those of Detroit or Minneapolis, with House and Jungle present in the meat of it.

When Seven first arrived on the scene he was known only as a vocalist / producer but has now evolved to include being a DJ. Seven has shared stages with a wide range of artistry from Gilles Peterson to Badbadnotgood, featured in several broadcasts on BBC Radio 1 including guest mixes with Benji B and DJ Heidi and has most recently featured on the Essential Mix along side Cold Cut (Ninja Tune founders) in celebration of Ninja Tunes 25 year Anniversary. Seven also hosts a residency at The Nest in London.

Griffin James, aka Francis Inferno Orchestra is a London based, Melbourne born DJ/Producer. Coming at house music from down under, his productions join the dots between soul, disco and the sample-based music that inspired him as a teenager. Griffin made the breakthrough to the international scene with ease - and has kept heads spinning with a stream of seriously danceable releases since 2010. Presenting house and techno classics alongside recent releases, FIOs DJ sets are a low-brow history lesson – respecting the past without being a slave to it which has lead him to become a key figure of Melbourne’s always growing underground dance scene.

JANUARY 24TH: Dām-FunK

Damon “Dām-FunK” Riddick is the epitome of funk. Ever since debuting with Stones Throw in 2008, Dām-FunK has become one of the genres most passionate proselytizers, out to save it from devilish depictions of cartoonish caricature. To Dam, funk is a way of living, “a feeling of struggle and staying cool through it all.”

Dām-FunK grew up in the Los Angeles city/suburb of Pasadena. A ‘ 70s baby, he came of age in the era of the Uncle Jamm’s Army parties, of electro-pharaoh Egyptian Lover, of Prince’ s purple reign. His parents nurtured his musical talents as a child and by his teens, he mastered the drums, then the drum machine.

After spending the 90’s lending his musical skills to rappers such as Mack 10 and MC Eiht. Dām-FunK and a few friends launched the popular Funkmosphere party in L.A. in the mid 2000s. It’s around then that Dam drew the attention of Stones Throw. Dam’ s partnership with Stones Throw has seen the release of his debut Toeachizown (2009) and Invite the Light (2015), as well as an anthology of early productions, Adolescent Funk(2010), to Higher(2013) with Steve Arrington and7 Days of Funk (2013) with Snoop Dogg.

FEBRUARY 14TH: SEEKAE (DJ SET) + ROLAND TINGS (DJ SET) & RACE BANYON

Over the past six years, Australian-English outfit ‘Seekae’ have won a hugely loyal following and a swag of awards for their signature blend of electronic pop, IDM, post-dubstep, post-rock, house and ambient. Their stunning debut The Sounds of Trees Falling On People was anointed one of the albums of the decade by FBi Radio; assured follow-up +Dome achieved Mojo Magazine’s Album of the Month in the UK and saw SEEKAE nominated for four Australian Independent Music Awards. The band then took +Dome on the road, touring Europe, Japan and North America, culminating in a sold-out Sydney Opera House show with an 8 piece-orchestra.

Roland Tings is Melbourne’s jack track anomaly with a penchant for acid coastlines and nebulous rhythms. Having toured Europe and his homeland extensively – Roland Tings supported Chet Faker’s sold-out Australia tour in early 2015, and has since filled dancefloors at festivals as diverse as Meredith Music Festival, Sydney Festival, MONA FOMA and Listen Out.
