Strong Entries For Teretonga

Strong Entries For Teretonga

Strong entries across a range of popular classes is the feature of this Sunday's motor racing at Teretonga Park near Invercargill.

The OSCA Super Saloons/Sport Saloons field features the big V8's with Dunedin driver Steve Ross entered in a 6 litre Jaguar XK8, Pierre Neame of Winton in his Ford Mustang, Lawrence Knowler, now resident in Clyde, in his Brennan Camaro and Dion Prentice of Cromwell in a Corvette. While those cars possess sheer grunt they should expect plenty of competition from some of the turbocharged cars in the field including Brent Cross of Winton in his EVO 3.

The South Island Formula Ford field has an international feel with Hunter McElrea and Mitchell Maddren both Australian based kiwis who are chasing the series title while Trevor Stiles of the UK is also on the grid. It will be the Southlanders, Ethan Anderson, Jordan Michels, Joseph Oliver and Corey Hodges, who the crowd wish to see thrive. Anderson is just 13 points behind McElrea in the overall title race and just one point behind Maddren in Class 1 while Hodges leads Class 3 of the series. Anderson is keen to maximise home advantage to take the championship lead prior to the Christmas break and singles out Teretonga as his favourite track. Anna Collins of Christchurch, sister of current South Island Formula Ford Champion Michael Collins, will also compete.

Steve Ross will also compete in the Noel McIntyre Drainage Clubmans Saloon races where the Jaguar will encounter a large field featuring a variety of cars including Inky Tulloch of Gore in his sensational Camaro GT3, Dunedin drivers Brian Scott (Corvette) and Adam Cullen (Nissan Skyline GTR), Greg Elder of Gore in a Honda Integra plus Invercargill drivers Liam MacDonald in his V8 Falcon, fresh from a podium at the V8 Supercar meeting at Pukekohe, Andrew Cundall in a 3.5 litre Toyota Levin, Dion Dawson (turbocharged Nissan Silvia), Colin Dawson (Camaro) and Doug Munro, (6 litre Holden Commodore).

Last season’s New Zealand Champion and runner-up in Pro 7 Saloons, Hamish Collins of Timaru and Jack Milligan of Prebbleton line up in that class with perhaps their biggest challenge coming from Ken Thompson of Mosgiel.

The NZ SIX Saloon races will be hard fought with several top contenders including Justin Ashwell of Rolleston and Wayne Christie of Christchurch in Falcons plus Dunedin driver Craig Paddon in a Commodore. In later model AU Falcons are Russell Keeler of Gore and Alvin Frew of Waikouaiti.

The Mini 7 South class will be equally tough battle in an all Canterbury affair with names such as Barry Wilson, Mark Mitchell and Doug Drake in the field.

On track action commences at 9.30am on Sunday with admission $15 while children under 14 are free.
