Southern Discoveries Queenstown Locals’ Day

Southern Discoveries Queenstown Locals’ Day

Southern Discoveries is inviting Wakatipu residents to get aboard Spirit of Queenstown for its second annual Local’s Day on Sunday 13 December.

Locals can experience Queenstown’s longest lake cruise on the purpose-built catamaran for just $20 for adults and $10 for children, and include a behind-the-scenes visit to Mt Nicholas High Country Farm for an additional $10 (adults) and $5 (children).

Proceeds from the day will go to the Sinbad Sanctuary Project, a pest control programme in Sinbad Gully in Milford Sound at the base of Mitre Peak. The project aims to help threatened birds, lizards and invertebrate species to increase in number, and was established by Southern Discoveries, the Fiordland Conservation Trust and Department of Conservation over five years ago.

Southern Discoveries director of sales and marketing Julia Savill said the day was a great opportunity for locals to enjoy an activity that is right on their doorstep while also helping a great cause.

“Queenstown locals can enjoy a beautiful scenic cruise and an authentic farm experience which includes a journey to spectacular vantage points by 4WD vehicle,” she said.

“We want to encourage locals to explore Mt Nicholas with friends and family; it really is a hidden gem.”

Those customers choosing a Mt Nicholas Farm Experience will hop off Spirit of Queenstown to meet working animals used on the farm, enjoy breathtaking views and experience a high country trip.

The tours depart from St Omer Wharf at 9.00am, 11.00am, 1.00pm and 3.00pm. Each cruise lasts 1 hour 45 minutes and locals choosing the farm experience will spend an additional two hours at Mt Nicholas.

There’ll also be a sausage sizzle for people to enjoy before boarding their cruise.

Bookings are recommended and can be made by visiting the Discover Queenstown information centre at the top of The Mall in Queenstown, the Queenstown Visitor Centre at St Omer Wharf, 110 Beach Street, or by calling 0800 264 536. Proof of Wakatipu residence is required (utility bill or pay slip) when checking in.

Southern Discoveries will also be selling their Locals’ Discovery Card which gives unlimited cruises on Spirit of Queenstown and discounted offers on all other Southern Discoveries products in Queenstown, Te Anau and Milford Sound.
