Sam Rapira set to make in ring return
Sam Rapira set to make in ring return in December after four months of recovering from a broken hand. Rapira will be fighting Iranian boxer and New Zealand resident Sivan Hermez.
The 32-year-old International Boxing Organisation (IBO) Asia Pacific Champion Rapria, last fought in New Plymouth against Australian Rob Powdrill for the IBO Intercontinental title. Unfortunately not only Rapira lost by split decision, but also managed to break his hand in the 5th or 6th round. Rapira said “6 weeks without punching is the longest time I haven’t punched for in the last 10 years.” Rapira also is a former New Zealand National Boxing Federation (NZNBF) Light Heavyweight Champion. Rapira is currently ranked twelfth in the World Boxing Organisation Asia Pacific Rankings.
Rapira opponent, 33-year-old Sivan Hermez, has been keeping himself busy this year. This being his seventh fight since his impressive knockout debut June this year. Hermez is already set to fight Troy Muriwai at ABA Stadium, a week before his fight against Rapira.
Rapira is hoping to end 2015 on a positive note before starting a busy 2016, hoping to schedule seven fights over the next twelve months. Rapira is also hoping to get a rematch against Rob Powdrill.
The fight night being called Hawera Rumble, Sponsored by The Colton's Motor Vehicle Company LTD, is set to fight at The Hub in Hawera, Taranaki. Rapira vs Hermez is scheduled for 6x3 min rounds. The event will also features former NZNBF Champion James Langton, Keiron Joel Toa versus Blake Bell and many local corporate fighters.
