Young New Zealanders with Disabilities showcase their talents!
On Saturday the 28th of November, over 100 young New Zealanders with disabilities will be showcasing their musical and
performance skills, as part of the Auckland StarJam End of Year Concert.
StarJam is a not-for-profit that has been working with young people with disabilities (Jammers) since 2002. It currently
has over 350 Jammers participating in musical workshops in Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington, Hamilton and Tauranga
each week.
The End of Year Concert is an opportunity to cement the Jammers’ growth and achievements which have taken place in the
workshop. The memories which will be created through the performances at these events are bright features in the
Jammers' lives.
Among the hundreds of New Zealander’s whose lives have been enriched by StarJam’s programmes, New Zealand’s Got Talent
winner 2013, Renee Maurice has emerged as a spokesperson for StarJam and its campaigns. Maurice was in a participant in
a StarJam workshop for six years before becoming a singing tutor for two and eventually taking out the competition.
“StarJam provides a platform for young people to share their gifts and talents with people, and the chance to make
lasting friendships. They inspire audiences and find confidence and happiness. If it weren’t for StarJam, I would not be
where I am today, personally or professionally.”
The End of Year Concert is a chance for Jammers to perform to the wider community. Audience members can expect to be
swept up in an evening filled with sensational singing, dazzling dancing, dynamic drumming and masterful musical
mash-ups.
Members of the public are invited to attend the StarJam End of Year Concert at the Victory Convention Centre on November
28th – tickets are $10 and can be purchased through www.eventfinder.co.nz. For more details visitwww.starjam.org.
