Christmas Cups Bring Festive Cheer to the Coffee Club

Christmas Cups Bring Festive Cheer to the Coffee Club Customers While Raising Awareness for Disadvantaged Kids

The Coffee Club New Zealand and KidsCan have unveiled four new Christmas takeaway coffee cup and napkin designs designed by school children that won a nationwide Christmas Cup Art Competition.

The cups and napkins will be available through all The Coffee Club stores from this week until mid-January. The winning images were chosen from more than 300 entries received from KidsCan supported schools.

The aim of the competition has been to raise awareness of the work being done by KidsCan to support the education, health and wellbeing of children living in hardship. The winning schools and children also received prizes. The first placed school has received $4,000 from The Coffee Club. Second place received $3,000, third place $1,500 and fourth place $500. The four young artists also each received $250 Westfield vouchers.

“We are so pleased to have been able to run this competition for a second year,” says Brad Jacobs, co-director of The Coffee Club. “We’ve been mind blown by the response from the schools and kids. We received three times more entries than last year and the standard was very high. It was extremely difficult to narrow them down to just four winners!”

The competition was open to children from KidsCan partner schools, and asked them to submit a unique and eye-catching design that reflected how they felt about Christmas.

First place, to feature on the large takeaway cup, went to 12-year-old Rebecca Fruean from St Edmund Hillary Collegiate School in Otara. Her design featured Rudolph and Santa Claus, along with the Maori word for Christmas: Kirihimete.

Second place was won by David Ly (age 9) of Edmonton Primary School in Te Atatu South, whose design is on the medium takeaway cup and third place went to Raine Tauatevalu, aged 8, from Wymondley Road School whose design is featured on the small takeaway cup. Fourth place was awarded to 12-year old JayLo Burton, from Oceanview Heights School in Timaru. Her colourful design has been printed onto The Coffee Club luncheon napkins.

KidsCan works to aid individuals, communities, businesses and the government to co-operate in providing food, clothing and basic health care in schools to enable all disadvantaged children to reach their full potential. The Coffee Club New Zealand has been involved in a number of campaigns and initiatives with KidsCan including The Big Night In Telethon back in 2009, the Mystery Envelope Appeal, Christmas Crackers, Campbell Live Lunchbox Day Appeal and KidsCan Online Auctions.

“We are thankful for the continued support of The Coffee Club New Zealand,” says Sophie Martignier, Brand and Sponsorship Manager at KidsCan. “We love the interactive competitions they run, which inspire the children to be creative, as well as draw attention to the cause.”
