Wellington Phoenix A-League Licence

Friday 30 October 2015
Yellow Fever

The news on Monday night that Football Federation Australia (FFA) have declined the Wellington Phoenix a ten year licence extension to compete in the Hyundai A-League has rocked both the fans of the club and the football community as a whole.

We firmly believe that the FFA has made a naive decision on this occasion. The Wellington Phoenix is as much a part of this league as the other nine clubs and it’s fantastic to see these clubs voicing their support and standing alongside us. We are calling on the FFA to reconsider their stance and confirm the Wellington Phoenix’s long term future in this league. To achieve the stated goal of growing the league it makes no sense to be removing established clubs that are growing both on and off the field.

Yellow Fever would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to all those who are supporting us and the Wellington Phoenix at this time.

Since the news broke on Monday there has been an outpouring of support and it is incredibly humbling to be receiving messages from fellow football fans across New Zealand, Australia and from further afield.

To have fans, owners and players from rival teams backing our #SaveTheNix campaign is evidence of the strong bonds that exist in football and that extend well beyond rivalry. This is a coming together of a wider football family and a display of camaraderie that we are proud to be a part of.

We would also like to extend our support to the players, coaches, owners, board members, backroom staffers, and volunteers of the Wellington Phoenix. We know how much this situation is affecting us and can only imagine how these feelings must be amplified within the club. Your hard work is what makes this club the great institution that it is.

As fans we encourage everyone to purchase match tickets, season tickets and club memberships to increase the support of our team.

Spread the word of the Phoenix to everyone you can and encourage others to join you at our next home game on 13th November at 7:30pm by buying tickets from Ticketek today. There are even non-ticketed memberships available to those of you abroad who are unable to attend matches but don’t want to see football lose its place in this wonderful city and country of ours.

We will continue to fight for the club we support to remain in the league and look forward to your continued support in this cause.

#SaveTheNix
